AZ4NORML ACTION ALERT: HR 4747: Cross Border Reservation Drug Trafficking Sentence Enhancement Act of 2009
AZ4NORML ACTION ALERT
Please contact Senator Charles Schumer’s office and ask him not to continue this outrageous drug war. We do not need more laws! We need sensible drug policies and to re-legalize marijuana.
Please call Senator Schumer’s office and tell him no more laws! We will not stand for any more anti-American laws.

H.R. 4747: Cross Border Reservation Drug Trafficking Sentence Enhancement Act of 2010
Sponsor: Owens (D – NY)
Official Title: To amend the Controlled Substances Import and Export Act to prevent the use of Indian reservations located on the United States borders to facilitate cross-border drug trafficking, and for other purposes.
Status:
3/3/2010: Introduced in House
3/3/2010: Referred to House Energy and Commerce Committee
3/3/2010: Referred to House Judiciary Committee
Commentary: This bill is a counterpart to S. 2893. Section 960(a) of Title 21, U.S. Code, prohibits a range of conduct involving controlled substances. This bill would add a provision to § 960(b), which specifies the penalties for violating subsection (a), adding a penalty for controlled substance offenses, including conspiracies and attempts, that involve entering, leaving, or activity within a federal or state Indian reservation on the borders of the United States. Some offenses under § 960(a) require proof of knowing or intentional conduct, but the bill does not identify any state of mind required to support imposing the sentence enhancement. A violation would be punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment, a fine as authorized by Title 18, U.S. Code, or both. Any term of imprisonment imposed would run consecutively to any other term of imprisonment imposed under § 960(a).

ACTION ALERT – Take Action January 19th
There is an important action to take:
http://www.denverpost.com/headlines/ci_14208901#ixzz0d0ZnYRjL
Tom Gorman,  who works in the Obama administration in the Office of Drug Control Policy is leading a campaign to gut and discredit Colorado’s constitutional amendment 20 which allows cannabis use for medical reasons. Mr. Gorman is also director of the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program in Colorado running an arm of the National Drug Control Policy office in four Western States.  Gorman has a contract that funnels $150,00 a year in federal money and he claims “Technically, if you ask me who I represent, it’s the Colorado Drug Investigators Association” in an interview with Susan Greene he goes on to say “Pot smokers are gaming the system” and  ”chaos and moral decay will ensue”. Tom Gorman was instrumental in the campaign to overturn Arizona’s widely supported medical marijuana law in 1996.
This is an outrage. This is an Obama administration director who is going against statements made by Attorney General Eric Holder on March 18, 2009 in which he declares the administration will be stopping the raids on medical marijuana patients and dispensaries.   Mr.  Gorman appears to be violating Federal law which does not allow for government funds to be used for lobbying against legislation or for candidates.
It is time to retire Tom Gorman, 66 of the Rocky Mountain HIDTA.   Tell our government to respect the rights of patients to use this valuable medicine, the voters spoke.
