Trump wants to resume nuclear tests 33 years after the US conducted its last one

02:20 Min

It's been 33 years since the US last tested a nuclear weapon and now President Donald Trump wants the tests to resume. He says it’s to put the world's top nuclear powers on an equal footing, at least when it comes to testing their arsenal. He announced an order for his Department of War to resume nuclear testing immediately. And has specifically mentioned China and Russia. The US, China and Russia are signatories of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, which bans testing for any reason, whether military or civilian. But all of them have not officially ratified the treaty.
